Neutron development marks propulsion test milestone
Spaceflight company Rocket Lab has advanced the development of its next-generation Neutron vehicle by conducting a complete-duration static firing of the engine designated Archimedes. The hardware is being prepared to drive the upper section of the new medium-class launch system.
During a static fire campaign, the stage remains secured on the ground while the propulsion unit is ignited to confirm performance under operational conditions. The recent trial served to verify that the engine can sustain its planned burn time without anomaly ahead of integration.
Role within the future launch architecture
The Neutron is designed as a reusable rocket intended to handle larger satellite deployments than the firm's existing Electron vehicle. The Archimedes unit represents the core propulsion element of the second stage and has been engineered to meet the specific demands of the new launcher.
