Artemis Accords Signing Ceremony in Washington
On Thursday, June 25, a formal signing of the Artemis Accords will take place at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., scheduled for 9:30 a.m. EDT.
The event will be hosted by NASA Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson, who will welcome David Tshere, Botswana’s Minister of Communications and Innovation, alongside Gregory Autry, Senior Advisor for Space at the U.S. Department of State.
The Artemis Accords constitute an international framework aimed at promoting peaceful lunar exploration and cooperation on future Moon missions. By signing, Botswana affirms its intention to engage in the U.S.-led lunar activities and to uphold principles of transparency, interoperability and sustainable use.
- Botswana joins a growing list of nations that have already ratified the Accords.
- The agreement opens avenues for participation in scientific projects and technology exchange linked to Artemis missions.
- The ceremony highlights the strategic partnership between the United States and Botswana in space research and innovation.
NASA plans to develop further collaborations with Botswana under the Accords, including educational initiatives, satellite communications support, and involvement of local research institutions in lunar projects.
This signing is part of a broader effort to bring more African and other regional partners into the global lunar strategy and to democratize access to space technologies.
