Assembly of the COSI Detector
On July 8, 2026, engineers and managers from the University of California, Berkeley watched as the detector assembly of the Compton Spectrometer and Imager (COSI) was slowly lifted from a workbench.
The top of the detector box carries four silver-colored pieces that cover the flexible circuits. These circuits transport the signals generated by the detectors to the readout electronics.
Correct positioning of the silver covers protects the delicate flex circuits while maintaining an uninterrupted path for the electrical signals to the processing hardware.
This step represents a key milestone in the integration of COSI, a mission designed to observe high‑energy gamma‑ray sources across the cosmos.
