View into the Young Universe
Researchers based at Durham University have achieved a notable advance in explaining how galaxies took shape and changed during the universe's early phases. By applying recently obtained high-capability observational data, they recorded the farthest known instance of a dense, star-producing region situated at the center of a galaxy.
The structure dates to an era more than 9 billion years in the past, offering a rare direct look at the processes that built galaxies not long after the Big Bang. Such records are essential for testing and improving current theories of cosmic structure growth.
