Complete solar coverage
On 12 August 2026 the Moon will pass directly in front of the Sun, creating a total solar eclipse. The path of totality is a narrow corridor roughly 150 km wide, where observers will experience several minutes of total darkness. Outside this corridor only a partial eclipse will be visible.
Striking Baily’s beads
Just before and after totality, bright points of light known as Baily’s beads appear as sunlight streams through lunar valleys. This phenomenon is a hallmark of total eclipses and is especially pronounced when the Sun is low on the horizon.
