LatConnect 60 selects Transcelestial’s Space Optical Network for SWIRSAT imaging constellation
On 20 August 2026, LatConnect 60 (LC60) announced a commercial agreement with Transcelestial to supply an optical communications terminal for the SWIRSAT‑1 satellite. The terminal will be part of the forthcoming SWIRSAT imaging constellation, which aims to deliver high‑resolution short‑wave infrared imagery.
In addition to the hardware, LC60 gains access to Transcelestial’s Space Optical Network, a global laser communication system that transfers data between ground stations and spacecraft via free‑space optics. The network offers high data rates with low latency, making it well suited for Earth observation missions.
The contract covers both the delivery of the terminal and the use of the network for the full SWIRSAT constellation, which is planned to consist of multiple satellites. LC60 says the partnership will significantly improve its ability to downlink imagery in near‑real time.
Transcelestial notes that its optical network has been validated in several flight tests and is now ready for commercial service. Both firms view the collaboration as a step toward a scalable, resilient infrastructure for future Earth‑observing and scientific satellites.
