New launch site for European small rockets
French aerospace company Latitude announced that it will conduct its inaugural flight from a newly built spaceport in Oman. The launch is scheduled for the latter part of 2027 and will represent the first commercial use of the facility.
Specialising in low‑cost, small‑payload launchers, Latitude views the Middle‑Eastern location as a strategic complement to existing European and US launch sites. Oman’s geography provides favorable conditions for inserting satellites into low‑Earth orbit.
The mission will employ Latitude’s proprietary small launch vehicle, designed to carry payloads of up to 150 kg. The company highlights a modular design that enables rapid production and turnaround.
Partnership and infrastructure
The Omani government is supporting the effort by supplying the necessary infrastructure and regulatory approvals. Both parties expect the new spaceport to become an additional launch option not only for Latitude but also for other international operators.
Following the maiden flight, Latitude plans additional missions from Oman to assess operational economics and expand the site’s capabilities.
Outlook
This move into the Omani market marks another step for European firms seeking a broader footprint in the global space sector. Analysts view the initiative as an indicator of growing demand for flexible, small‑scale launch services.
