Flight 13 Overview
On July 24 2024 SpaceXs Starship lifted off from the Texas launch site and completed its thirteenth test flight. The mission aimed to verify the transport system’s performance while delivering a payload to orbit.
During ascent the upper stage released a group of next‑generation Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit. These satellites are intended to expand the companys global broadband network and improve link quality.
After stage separation the vehicle performed a controlled re‑entry through the atmosphere and splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico. Telemetry showed the impact speed was the lowest ever recorded for a Starship return, leading officials to describe the landing as the softest splashdown to date.
The successful flight highlights progress in Starship reusability and provides valuable data for upcoming orbital missions as well as the long‑term goals of lunar and Mars exploration.
