Robotaxi Service Introduced in Miami
Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has extended the operational area of its autonomous ride‑hailing platform Robotaxi to include Miami, Florida. This expansion makes Florida the third U.S. state where Tesla offers regular self‑driving rides, following launches in two other states since the program’s debut last summer.
Technology and Operational Scope
The Robotaxi service relies on Tesla’s Full Self‑Driving (FSD) software combined with a defined geofence that limits vehicle operation to the Miami metropolitan area. Customers can request rides through the Tesla app, and the vehicles operate without a human driver inside the designated zone.
Regulatory Context
Approval for the Florida rollout was granted after a review by state transportation authorities, which required verification of the system’s safety standards. Tesla is cooperating with regulators to ensure full compliance with local laws.
Future Outlook
The move into the Floridian market aligns with Tesla’s broader plan to gradually scale the Robotaxi network. The company has indicated that additional U.S. cities are being evaluated for future deployment.
