Venus – a puzzling twin planet
Venus resembles Earth in diameter and bulk density, yet it differs markedly in several key aspects. These differences make it one of the most intriguing bodies in the Solar System.
The planet spins in the opposite direction to most worlds, causing the Sun to rise in the west and set in the east. Surface temperatures average about 465 °C, hot enough to melt lead.
Perhaps most striking is Venus’s lack of a natural satellite. Nearly every other large planet in the Solar System hosts at least one moon, while Venus has none.
A recent scientific study could now explain this missing moon. Researchers suggest that specific events early in Venus’s history may have prevented a satellite from forming. Confirming this idea will require additional observations and data.
If validated, the findings could affect theories of planet formation, especially regarding the role of early collisions and subsequent orbital evolution. It would also show that similar processes can lead to different outcomes on seemingly Earth‑like worlds.
