Led by T. A. Plattner, a research team examined these parallels and published their findings in the journal Earth and Space Science. The study compared mineralogy, sedimentary layers, and erosion patterns to infer past water activity.
These comparisons help scientists reconstruct the hydrological history of Mars. By identifying how long water may have persisted and under what conditions, the work informs models of the planet’s climate evolution.
