Successful rendezvous with the target
China's Tianwen‑2 probe has completed a multi‑year journey of over one billion kilometres to reach its designated near‑Earth asteroid. Managed by the China National Space Administration (CNSA), the mission aims to return the first asteroid samples to Earth.
Mission objectives
The primary goal is to acquire material from the asteroid’s surface and bring it back for scientific analysis. Results are expected to shed light on the formation of the Solar System and the composition of primitive bodies.
Flight profile and distance
The spacecraft spent more than a year in transit, performing several Earth and lunar flybys to gain the required velocity. In total, Tianwen‑2 travelled approximately 1 000 000 000 km (about 620 million miles).

Future steps
