Official Adoption of ARRAKIHS
The European Space Agency (ESA) has formally accepted the ARRAKIHS proposal as a scientific space mission. This move positions the European Union at the forefront of exploring the universe’s faintest regions.
Mission Objectives
ARRAKIHS will deploy telescopic instruments to detect and study structures with extremely low surface brightness. These scarcely luminous areas, often referred to as the “dark” parts of the cosmos, hold crucial information about matter distribution and galaxy formation.
Scientific Team
The science team includes astrophysicist Matthieu Schaller, who highlighted the mission’s potential to deepen understanding of the universe’s hidden components.
Timeline
A launch is scheduled for 2030. In the interim, technical studies and component testing will be carried out to ensure mission readiness.
International Cooperation
While ESA leads the project, numerous European research institutions and international partners will contribute, providing a wide array of observational data.
