A Rare Appearance of the Full Moon

Extreme Rise and Set Points
Observers in northern latitudes will see the Moon rise and set almost at the horizon in both the east and west. Its apparent path runs nearly parallel to the horizon, extending its visibility throughout the night.
Why the Moon Stays Low
Earth’s tilt of roughly 23.5 degrees tilts the northern hemisphere toward the Sun in June. At the same time the Moon is positioned near the far side of its elliptical orbit, increasing its distance from Earth. These factors combine to reduce the angle at which the Moon is seen above the horizon.
Implications for Skywatchers
Amateur astronomers have a unique chance to photograph the Moon close to the horizon and to experience reduced lunar glare on northern constellations, improving the visibility of faint stars.
