Arrival at Kennedy Space Center
On 21 June the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, previously housed in a clean‑room integration facility, was off‑loaded at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The observatory is now being moved into Hangar 4 where final integration and verification steps will take place.
Final preparation phase
Over the next weeks the team will conduct functional tests, instrument calibrations, and install the payload fairing. Engineers are checking the optical system that underpins the wide‑field and infrared observations, performing final acceptance reviews in line with NASA safety standards.
Summer launch timeline
A definitive launch date has not yet been announced, but a late‑summer window is targeted. The mission will proceed once all tests are cleared and the vehicle is fueled for the launch vehicle.
Scientific significance
Equipped with a 2.4‑meter primary mirror, the telescope will complement the Hubble Space Telescope by offering a larger field of view and enhanced infrared sensitivity. Data gathered are expected to advance studies of dark energy, exoplanets and distant galaxies.
