NASA Secures Terran R Launch Capability
NASA has added Relativity Space’s Terran R launch service to its Launch Services II (NLS II) contract portfolio. The award was made under the contract’s on‑ramp provision, which allows new providers to be incorporated after the initial agreement.
The NLS II framework consists of multiple‑award, indefinite‑delivery/indefinite‑quantity (IDIQ) contracts. Under this arrangement, NASA can issue task orders to any qualified contractor for launch services as mission needs arise.
With the Terran R now part of the pool, NASA mission planners have an additional option for accessing orbit. The vehicle is designed to deliver payloads to a range of trajectories, supporting both scientific and exploration objectives.
Relativity Space continues to develop the Terran R, a fully reusable, methane‑fueled rocket intended to compete in the medium‑to‑heavy lift segment. The company’s additive manufacturing approach aims to reduce lead times and production costs.
