New Contract Expands Access to Commercial Earth Observation Data
The United States space agency NASA announced the selection of eight additional companies for its Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition program. In parallel, the agency will continue to procure data products from six current contract holders.
The move aims to broaden the variety of commercially sourced measurements, offering higher spatial resolution and more frequent observations than NASA's own Earth‑monitoring satellites. These complementary data streams are intended to enrich the agency's overall dataset.
Scientists, civil agencies and policy makers will gain access to the new data sets, which are expected to improve monitoring of climate trends, natural hazards and resource management, thereby supporting evidence‑based decision making.
