Introduction
The NASA TESS mission has reported the discovery of two extraordinary exoplanets whose extremely low densities qualify them as the "puffiest" worlds ever recorded.
Planetary Characteristics
Both objects share a radius similar to Jupiter but possess a fraction of its mass, resulting in a bulk density akin to that of cotton candy and far below typical gas‑giant values.
Scientific Relevance
This finding provides new insight into the formation and stability of planets with very low densities, expanding the known diversity of planetary types and challenging existing formation models.
Methodology
The planets were identified using the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), which detects periodic dimming of host stars caused by transiting bodies. Subsequent analysis yielded precise measurements of radius and mass, from which the unusually low densities were derived.
