The United States space agency has started accepting applications from news organizations that wish to report from the launch of its upcoming space telescope. The Nancy Grace Roman mission is currently scheduled to lift off no earlier than August 30.
Officials indicated that Sunday, August 30, is the earliest possible launch date, with the activity not expected to begin before 7:20 a.m. Eastern Time. The final timing remains subject to preparation progress and technical clearances.
Context of the mission
The observatory is named after NASA astronomer Nancy Grace Roman and represents one of the agency’s next major astrophysics projects. On-site access for qualified media is being arranged through the accreditation process now in progress.
