Booster integration work underway for SLS
The United States space agency has initiated the process of joining the individual segments of the solid rocket boosters designed for the Space Launch System. These boosters are intended to provide auxiliary thrust for the Artemis III mission, which aims to return astronauts to the lunar surface.
The earliest possible launch window for the crewed expedition is currently indicated as 2027. Stacking the booster components represents a key stage in the vehicle integration sequence before the core stage and the Orion spacecraft are added later.
Context of the Artemis campaign
The Artemis program seeks to establish a sustained human presence in the lunar region. Whereas Artemis I and II are planned as uncrewed and crewed orbital test flights, Artemis III focuses on a landing near the lunar south pole.
