Origins of Black Holes
Standard physics typically describes black holes as the remnants of collapsed massive stars. However, theorists propose an alternative class known as Primordial Black Holes (PBHs). These are hypothesized to have formed in the immediate aftermath of the Big Bang due to the collapse of dense matter in the early universe.
The Dark Matter Connection
Despite extensive theorizing, PBHs have never been observed. Some scientists have suggested that these elusive objects could be the source of dark matter, the mysterious missing mass that influences the gravitational behavior of the cosmos.
Challenging the Hypothesis
Recent research conducted by academics from Rice University and Oakland University challenges this notion. The study focuses on a specific category of PBHs with masses comparable to asteroids. The findings suggest that this particular type of primordial black hole may not be the primary component of the universe's dark matter as previously speculated.
