Capturing a Rare Solar Transit
Photographer Josh Dinner managed to record a striking image of NASA's Roman Space Telescope passing in front of the Sun during a SpaceX Falcon Heavy launch.
The shot was taken from the parking lot of a Hobby Lobby store, where Dinner had set up his equipment to monitor the rocket's ascent.
As the Falcon Heavy climbed, the Roman Space Telescope – still awaiting launch – crossed the solar disk, creating a brief silhouette that Dinner was able to capture with a solar filter.
The resulting photograph highlights the intersection of commercial spaceflight and astronomical observation, showing that even during a launch, opportunities for scientific imaging can arise.
