Overview
The Roman Space Telescope, also known as the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, is poised for launch. Liftoff is scheduled for August 30 and will be carried out using a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.
The observatory aims to perform a full-sky survey that surpasses previous observational limits. This will enable scientists to gather data on the large‑scale structure of the universe, the distribution of dark matter, and the properties of exoplanets.
Technical Specifications
The primary instrument is a wide‑field infrared camera capable of imaging approximately 0.28 square degrees per exposure, a field of view far larger than that of the Hubble Space Telescope. A coronagraph onboard will block starlight to allow direct imaging of nearby exoplanets.
