Resumption of commercial activity
British space‑tech company SatVu, which focuses on thermal imaging from orbit, announced that it will start providing paid services with its HotSat‑2 satellite on 29 June. This move brings the firm back to revenue generation after the failure of its inaugural satellite in 2023.
Satellite background
HotSat‑2 is a small satellite operating in low Earth orbit (LEO) and is designed to deliver high‑resolution infrared imagery. The payload is intended for customers in agriculture, environmental monitoring and infrastructure management, offering near‑real‑time thermal data.
Previous setbacks
The predecessor, HotSat‑1, lost contact shortly after launch in 2023 and was unable to provide usable data, causing significant commercial and financial setbacks for SatVu.
Future outlook
By re‑activating HotSat‑2, SatVu aims to solidify its foothold in the expanding Earth‑observation market. The company plans to onboard additional clients in the coming months and to enhance the continuity of its data services.
