First orbital success for an Indian commercial rocket
On July 18, the firm Skyroot Aerospace conducted the inaugural launch of its Vikram-1 vehicle. The mission concluded with the rocket reaching orbit, confirming the performance of the newly developed system.
The accomplishment makes Skyroot Aerospace the first commercial entity in India to send a privately built rocket into orbital flight. Earlier orbital launches from the country were carried out under government leadership.
Relevance for India's space industry
The orbital insertion demonstrates a shift in India's space sector, where private firms are beginning to operate independent launch services. Such capabilities allow commercial providers to deploy satellites without relying solely on state-operated launchers.
