The latest Starlink launch, designated 17‑50, lifted off from Launch Complex 4E at Vandenberg Space Force Base on the evening of November 2, 2025. Liftoff occurred at 9:01 p.m. PDT (04:01 UTC), carrying 24 additional broadband satellites aboard a Falcon 9 rocket.
With this deployment, the total number of Starlink satellites in low Earth orbit exceeded 11,000 for the first time. The milestone highlights SpaceX’s rapid expansion of its megaconstellation aimed at delivering global broadband coverage.
The newly released satellites were placed at an initial altitude of roughly 550 kilometers and will raise to their operational height after checkout. Each satellite incorporates an active deorbit mechanism to ensure safe removal from orbit at the end of its service life.
Industry analysts note that while the growing fleet promises improved internet access worldwide, it also raises concerns about orbital congestion and space debris mitigation. SpaceX continues to collaborate with regulators to address these issues.
The launch is part of SpaceX’s high‑cadence Starlink launch schedule, which aims to deploy dozens of satellites each week. The next Starlink flight is slated for late November and will add another batch of satellites to the constellation.
