A research group has examined the life stages of more than 155,000 stars within the Milky Way to produce an independent estimate of the universe's age. Their results are consistent with the established figure of about 13.8 billion years and reinforce the prevailing standard model of cosmology.

Relevance for the Standard Model
The conventional cosmological framework relies on measurements such as the cosmic microwave background and distance determinations of distant galaxies. The new stellar study adds a further confirmation based on stellar evolution. If the result survives formal expert evaluation, it could reduce existing tensions between differing universe-age estimates.
Future work drawing on larger stellar catalogs may improve precision. Astronomical data collections such as those from the Gaia mission provide an essential foundation for such efforts.
