A fresh direction for space games
System Era, the developer behind the popular sandbox space title Astroneer, has unveiled its next project: Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions. In an interview, the studio’s creative director explained that the team deliberately moved away from the solitary exploration and survival mechanics that defined its predecessor.
Collaboration over isolation
Unlike the original, Starseeker emphasizes joint missions where players gather resources, construct bases, and map unknown planets together. The creative director highlighted that this “friendlier” approach not only broadens accessibility but also enables new gameplay systems that reward teamwork.
Key gameplay features
- Multiplayer co‑op supporting up to four players in real time.
- Expanded vehicle and equipment options designed for shared tasks.
- Dynamic worlds that react to player behavior.
- Learning mode that teaches newcomers the basics of space exploration.
Community response
Early feedback from the player base is mixed: veteran Astroneer fans miss the open‑ended sandbox feel, while others welcome the ability to experience the game with friends. The creative director sees this as an opportunity to diversify the genre and attract a wider audience.
Looking ahead
System Era aims to launch Starseeker across multiple platforms next year, with ongoing updates planned to introduce additional cooperative and exploration features.
