New evaluation effort for battery-electric heavy trucks
Tesla, the manufacturer focused on electrified mobility for commercial vehicles, is expanding the practical assessment of its heavy-duty Semi truck. Under a new arrangement, the Wisconsin-headquartered logistics company Paper Transport, LLC (PTI) will operate the long-range configuration of the vehicle in a defined assignment.
The cooperation centers on dedicated transport operations within the Chicago metropolitan region. By selecting this location, the pilot enters an area with comparatively low temperatures, creating specific demands on the driving range and energy management of the powertrain.
Climate implications for electric freight transport
Lower ambient temperatures are generally regarded as a critical factor for the performance of battery systems in commercial vehicles. Through the decision to run the Semi in regular service under such conditions, the program aims to generate findings on the model's actual behavior when exposed to cold weather.
