Childhood in Suriname
Rohit Goeptar entered the world in a financially constrained household in Suriname, where both parents held multiple jobs to meet basic needs. Despite limited resources, the family placed a high value on education and mutual support.
Relocation to California
At roughly six years old, the family moved to California, United States, seeking improved economic opportunities. The initial two years proved challenging, prompting a brief return to South America where Goeptar continued his schooling.
Return and Academic Progress
Following a subsequent move back to California during his teenage years, Goeptar navigated the American education system. He demonstrated an early fascination with science, particularly physics and aerospace engineering, and leveraged scholarships and extracurricular programs to fund his studies.
Higher Education and NASA Exposure
He earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from a Californian university and pursued a master’s in astrophysics. During this period, he participated in several NASA workshops, gaining insight into the agency’s operations.
Professional Role at NASA
After graduation, Goeptar secured a NASA internship and progressed through various positions. He now contributes to projects focused on propulsion systems for crewed missions and serves as an inspirational figure for youths from underprivileged backgrounds.
