Agency upholds recall despite manufacturer objection
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has denied a petition submitted by Tesla that sought to prevent a formal recall related to a potential defect in the headlights of certain vehicles. The federal agency disagreed with the company's position and maintained that corrective action is required.
The measure applies to an estimated 19,917 units of the Model 3 and Model Y built from 2017 through 2023. Tesla had asked the regulator to accept a remedy path outside the standard recall process, but the request was refused.
